Your ski adventure starts even before you hit the slopes. Shopping for a ski goggle can be quite a ride with all the options available. Before you start trying them on, your first priority is to insist on a quality lens. Shopping at a reputable store will make your buying decision an easy one and give you the look and protection you desire.
Does it protect you against UV? You want to ensure you have 100% UV protection - you can’t see or feel UV, but it causes unwanted damage to your eyes. Zeal provides 100% UV protection from UV A, B & C.
What type of lens is it? Polarized/Photochromic or Tinted Lens: polarized lenses reduce glare up to 99%. Glare causes eye strain and your ability to see depth of field. A polarized lens will make your day on the slopes more comfortable as it reduces harsh glare from the sun, snow, and ice. Photochromic lenses adjust color based on the light conditions – eliminating the need for two pairs of lenses. Tinted lenses personalize your goggles with multiple colors to choose from for specific light conditions. All goggle lenses should be made of impact resistant plastic materials.
What do I look for in the fit? Ensure your goggles fit properly with and without your helmet on. If you wear glasses make sure they fit over them comfortably. Most goggles come in a variety of small, medium and large sizes. Also look for adjustable, wide, no-slip straps as they work best at keeping your goggles secure. Foam inserts are also a must to help keep out wind, dirt, and ice. Look for foam that is thick enough to cushion a fall.
Will it scratch or fog up? You will want to ensure your goggles are vented to increase airflow to avoid fogging and moisture build-up. An anti-fog coating is also an integral part of the lens as is a hard coating to avoid scratching.
What styles and colors are best? Of course, you want to look great and there is no shortage of lens colors and stylish goggles available. Various light conditions require various lens color choices – greys and yellows work best in all light conditions. Oranges, jades and dark greys perfect for harsh sunlight. Light blues and high transparency lenses are perfect for stormy and low light conditions. Want to stand out? Look for goggles with bright colored straps and color complimenting frames.
