At the end of this month, we can expect the 2023 World Ringette Championships to give new life to the saying, “Excitement starts the race, but discipline carries you to the finish line.”
This iteration of the tournament will be a special one. 2023 marks the 60th anniversary of the sport or ringette and Ringette Canada decided to make this event extra special by focusing on future generations and are integrating 2 of their development programs into the overall schedule. This event will not only feature international action between: Canada, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and the USA, but it will also showcase the U17 ‘La Relève’’ development program that focuses on the pathways of coaches and officials as well as athletes. And the U18 program who will be itself experiencing their first foray into international competition. All of this is happening at WinSport arena in Calgary, Alberta. The opening ceremonies will take place on Oct 29th and the games will begin on Oct 30th, with the finals being played on Nov 4th, 2023.
These teams are as eager as ever to put on a thrilling spectacle and battle for the medals. The World Ringette Championships means everything to these athletes. We’ve seen lots of great ringette being played so far this season with most teams around the globe fully into regular season action with their club teams.
2023 has already been a bumper year for sporting events and now has the potential to push the limits even further. The World Ringette Championships will join with the FIFA Women’s World Cup, Women’s Ashes, UCI World Championships & Solheim Cup in pushing women’s sport even further. Of course, the list goes on, those are just a handful of the brilliant competitions this year.
