Taekwondo Canada kicked-off Taekwondo Week in Montreal which began Tuesday, February 4th and featured both the Taekwondo Canada National Championships (February 4-6) and 2025 Canada Open (February 7-9).
These events were proudly supported by Tourism Montreal and the Province of Quebec and held in the same week for the first time in Taekwondo Canada’s history with the Palais des Congres in downtown Montreal as the host venue. This event featured the top taekwondo athletes at the Cadet, Junior and Senior levels as well as Poomsae in the country.
“Our National Championships are the premiere national taekwondo event in Canada in 2025 with Canadian athletes vying for spots on the National Team for an opportunity to compete for our country against the best in international competitions throughout the world.” Said Dave Harris, Executive Director. “We are proud to welcome over 600 of Canada’s top athletes and coaches to Montreal next week for what will be a tremendous Taekwondo Week in Canada.”
As part of Taekwondo Week in Canada, Taekwondo Canada was also proud to welcome the world to Montreal later that week for the 2025 Canada Open International Taekwondo tournament beginning on Friday, February 7th proudly supported by the Province of Quebec and Tourism Montreal.
This event, sanctioned by World Taekwondo as a G2, featured over 1,000 athletes in Canada’s only international taekwondo event that began on Friday, February 7th at the Palais des Congres. This tournament featured top taekwondo athletes in the world squaring off in a best on best competition for world ranking points towards world championship status.
The Canada Open featured the top athletes in Canada, competing against athletes from North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia in the first major event of the season. This event will also set the standard for events in the Pan American region.
“The Canada Open is a significant opportunity for elite Canadian and international athletes to gain valuable points towards World and Olympic rankings.”, said Executive Director Dave Harris. “We are proud to welcome the taekwondo world to Montreal next week for what is going to be a tremendous event.”
