University-level players from all parts of Canada have made their way to the Woolwich Memorial Centre in Elmira, Ontario to spend five days eating, breathing and living ringette while competing for the gold and bragging rights at the 2018 - 2019 University Challenge Cup of Ringette. Play over the first two days of this five-day tournament has been fast and fierce. This year's UCC is hosted by Wilfrid Laurier University and brings together thirteen university ringette teams battling for top spot in the final standings. They include:
Overseen by the Canadian University and College Ringette Association (CUCRA), the UCC provides many university ringette teams and clubs with the chance to compete against each other in a tournament specifically designed for university-level players. As stated on the CUCRA website,
University Ringette provides a wonderful option...[and]... keeps many players involved in the sport who would otherwise likely hang up the skates during their years of post secondary study.
For those post-secondary students who choose to play while studying, university-level ringette often provides an immediate social network and ongoing supportive community that can help, not only with the transition to college or university, but throughout their post-secondary career as well.
