Ninety-six of the world's best female golfers have converged on the quiet bedroom community of Aurora, Ontario this week as they compete in the 2019 Canadian Pacific (CP) Women's Open and the premier Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event held each year in Canada. Presented in partnership with Golf Canada, it's the first time since 2001 (Angus Glen Golf Club) that this tournament has been held in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
With a full week of events planned over seven days, it's begun with final qualifying rounds at Scarboro Golf & Country Club, the CP Women's Leadership Summit, Pro-Am Tournaments and Practice Rounds for the players, and will finish with four full days of tournament play that will determine who will be crowned the 2019 CP Women's Open Champion.
This year's CP Open is at the prestigious Magna Golf Club. It was created in 2001 by Magna International, designed by Doug Carrick, and is situated perfectly on the rolling terrain of the Oak Ridges Moraine. The players will face a course that is more 6700 yards in length (front nine - 3369 yards & back nine - 3340 yards), includes multiple water hazards and over one hundred bunkers strategically placed throughout its layout. The Magna golf course has the distinction of being named SCOREGolf Magazine's Best New Course in Canada in 2002.
This year's CP Women's Open has special significance to Canadian fans as fellow compatriot and Smith Falls, Ontario native Brooke Henderson is back to defend her championship title she earned winning last year's Open held at Wascana Golf Club in Regina Saskatchewan. An already seasoned player of the LPGA tour who's just shy of her twenty-second birthday (September 10, 1997 - which also happens to be Arnold Palmer's birthdate too in 1929), Brooke is hoping to add to her two tournament wins so far this season (2019 Lotte Championship & 2019 Meijer Classic). It's expected that she will put up a good defense with a great offense when she hits the course Thursday for the tournament's first round. She will also most certainly feel the full benefit of good vibes from the millions of fans who will be cheering her on as they watch her defend her Canadian title.

Along with Brooke Henderson, there are fourteen other Canadians in this year's field of players. Most notably is amateur Michelle Liu from Vancouver British Columbia who will make her LPGA debut at Magna Golf Club and will become the youngest player ever to compete in Canada's National Women's Open Championship (12 years and 9 months old). In addition to Brooke and Michelle, 4-time LPGA Tour winner Lorie Kane will play in a record-breaking 29th Open. Definitely lots of great things to celebrate and take in at this year's 2019 CP Women's Open.
The remaining Canadian players include:
Golf Canada invites you to wear your brightest red and sharpest white to show your support for the Canadian players competing in the field.
This year, the CP Women's Open has joined forces with the SickKids Foundation to raise funds to support pediatric cardiac health, and in particular, to upgrade a cardiac operating suite at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. Players will be able to help raise funds for this very important fundraising effort by participating in CP's Birdies for Heart where every birdie made on the 17th hole during tournament play will result in CP donating an additional $5,000 to the SickKids Foundation charity.
Fans can also get involved in the CP Birdies for Heart fundraising program by pledging a donation amount or a per birdie donation during tournament play and whenever a LPGA Tour player sinks a birdie putt on the 17th hole. CP will match all donation dollars made through the Birdies for Heart initiative.
The LPGA has introduced a brand new fan app to enhance your experience as you walk the ropes, cheer on the players and experience all there is to offer at the 2019 CP Women's Open.
