The best of the world's female hockey players are set to hit the ice at the CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario beginning April 5th, 2023 and it will be your chance to watch these amazing athletes demonstrate their extraordinary hockey game talents and team play.
The International Ice Hockey Federation's (IIHF) 2023 Women's World Championship (WWC), presented in partnership with Hockey Canada and the Ontario Women's Hockey Association (OWHA), will showcase ten of the world's best teams as they battle for gold and for the chance to be called the best women's hockey team in the world.
Defending World Champions Team Canada welcomes teams from Czechia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States for the 12-day tournament that will culminate with the Championship Game to be held on Sunday April 16th.
As part of the lead up to the 2023WCC, Hockey Canada and the OWHA, together with the IIHF, have scheduled multiple pre-tournament events in seven different local Ontario communities including the Town of Aurora. Chosen as part of a bidding process, Aurora will play host to Team Sweden's training camp and exhibition game against Team Switzerland.
As Mayor Tom Mrakas stated in the Town's official media release announcing their pre-tournament participation, there is a tremendous amount of honour to have the opportunity to host Team Sweden and Team Switzerland and continue the Town's support of sport as well as its efforts to raise the profile and celebration of women's sports specified in the Town's current Sport Plan.
There are lots of ways to show your support for elite level women's hockey and do your part to help launch the 2023WCC.
