Team Artichuk had a busy start to the season as we competed in three events to round out the months of September and October.
September 6 - 9 we competed at the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard. In triple knockout action, we started the event with a 4-1 loss to Team Skrlik, before splitting the next two games with a 5-4 win against Team Cousins and a 5-4 loss to Team Strouse. Unfortunately we ran out of steam in a late night game against Team Ladouceur resulting in a 6-1 loss which ended our tournament. With many close games that unfortunately did not go our way, we finished the event with a 1-3 record shy of qualifying for the playoffs.
After a couple weeks of practice and off ice training, we competed at the KW Fall Classic September 19 - 22. During cross-over pool action we posted a 7-4 win against Team Kim, an 8-6 win against Team Madden, a 7-3 loss against Team Rizzo, and a 8-5 comeback win against Team Armstrong to clinch a playoff spot with a 3-1 record. In the quarterfinals, we had a rematch against Team Kim which resulted in an 8-4 loss and ended our run in the event.
Most recently, we competed at the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard October 10 - 14. We had a strong start to the triple knockout event, qualifying A-side with three 6-4 wins against Team Ladouceur, Team Hasselborg and Team Schwaller. In the quarterfinals we had a rematch against Team Schwaller where we couldn’t quite pull off the victory, tied coming home without the hammer, Team Schwaller made a precise draw to the button for the win, resulting in a 7-6 loss.
Although we would have liked to have deeper playoff runs at our last few events, overall we are proud of our team's resilience and growth. We have played a number of top teams over the last few weeks, and posted some strong performances. We are looking forward to some quality training and practice. Over the next few weeks you can find us at the following events:
Curling Stadium North Bay Women’s Spiel, November 8 - 10
Stu Sells Living Waters Collingwood Classic, November 21 - 24
Stu Sells Brantford Nissan Classic, December 6 - 9
