The Ontario Women's Field Lacrosse organization had approached the Lady Redbirds in March to see if they were interested in hosting the lacrosse team from St. Swithun's School, an independent boarding and day school from Winchester, England. The hosting opportunity was eagerly accepted and through the efforts of many volunteers, a two-day, mid-week tournament was organized with teams from the Toronto Beaches, Kitchener-Waterloo, Orangeville, Orillia, Oshawa, and Halton Hills in July 2016.
In spite of the intense heat and full sun, the 'local' teams gave the St. Swithun's School teams some excellent, competitive games. By the end of the tournament, athletes had the chance to learn a little more about how field lacrosse is played in another part of the world. They made lifelong memories and forged new international friendships that they can maintain off the field through social media. Check out the action and athleticism of these teams in our game highlights.
