Bluebird skies provided a picture perfect backdrop for our second go at giving "Gravel a Go" presented in partnership with Gravelocity Cycling Getaways. This time the plan enabled riders to explore and experience the gravel roads and trails in and around Elora, Fergus and the Elora Cataract Trailway. Chief Gravelleur Rich Martyn had set a route that was to begin and end in Fergus Ontario's historic Breadalbane Inn.
Once the group was on its way, Rich's route headed through the heart of Elora and over the Badley Bridge, along the quiet rural roads that surround the area's many farms and included multiple spectacular views along the Elora-Cataract Trailway including that of the Grand River, Belwood Lake and the Belwood Dam that's located in the Belwood Lake Conservation Area.
A mid-ride bakery break at the Country Market in the small village of Belwood would provide everyone with the chance to enjoy some sweet treats and good conversation on how the day was progressing. A delicious post-ride meal on the Breadalbane Inn's picturesque outdoor patio made for an excellent end to the day.
More cycling insights from Gravelocity's Chief Gravelleur Rich Martyn:
From beginning to end, Rich provided riders with helpful insights and information on both gravel cycling and general cycling topics including riding strategy, types of bikes, bike maintenance, tire pressure, rider safety and how best to ride in a group. In turn, riders freely asked questions and shared their own past cycling experiences as added context to the questions they were asking.
Once again, another most excellent adventure designed to get more gals gravel cycling and on the go. Thank you to all who joined in the fun and chose to share a beautiful summer Saturday with us.

This new event will begin with a one-hour session on how to give your bike some love - cleaning and maintaining the chain and gears - and how to fix a flat when you're out on the road. Then, you'll hop on your bike for a two-hour session focused on skill-building and practice on dirt, gravel and mud. Experience the gravel roads, rail trail and easy forest tracks that surround Palgrave and then return for a delicious lunch at the Caledon Hills Brewing Company.
