- Tell Us About the Current Team Dynamic and How Your Season is Going
- Our team gets along well together, and everyone likes each other. We always have a good time when we are together. we did decently well in Oshawa with 2 wins, 2 losses, and a tie. We performed well considering those five games were the first five games we had ever played as a whole team. Our second tournament, St. Catharines, was not good. We had a lot of players out with injuries and players playing whilst somewhat injured. We had fun together as a team, but we did not perform as well as we could have. Finally, we had an exhibition game against Laurentian, but yet again we had a few key players out with injuries (trying to heal up before UCCs). We pulled through with a win against Laurentian and had lots of fun during the game. With different schedules and players going home on the holidays, we have not had many practices. However, each player is doing their best to train on their own time, and every player who attends practice gives it their all.
University Challenge Cup
- How Are You Preparing for The University Challenge Cup and What Is the Team Looking Forward to Most?
- I am preparing by going to the gym 4-6 times per week to work on strength and endurance, I have a net in my backyard that I practice shooting on, and I am working on my mental game so that I can be in the best physical and mental condition I can be in at UCCs.
I think my team is most looking forward to getting on the ice and having fun. We all are aiming to play as best we can and hope that it will reflect on the scoreboard. Last year’s team came in second place in tier 2, this year we are hoping to win gold in whichever tier we qualify for. If every one of our players comes out and plays their best game every game, there is a good chance we'll be coming home with some hardware! It doesn’t matter if we win a medal or not though because we will be happy spending time together as a team playing the best sport there is!
- What is a Goal You Are Setting for Yourself Individually and a Goal Your Team is Setting Collectively?
- A goal I have set for myself is to go into every game and play the best I can in that moment. All I can do during a game is to give it my all and hope that it is enough. I don’t have control over my teammates, the other team, or the refs; I only have control over how I play. Another big goal I have set for myself is to be mentally resilient. No matter what happens in a game, I have to stay calm and focus on performing as a team player.
Collectively, we all want to work on communication. Being a university team, we have girls from all over Ontario who have played for many different teams. We need to communicate well on, and off, the ice to work together effectively as one team. Another given goal is to go into every game and perform as best we can; no matter what the scoreboard says, we will work hard until the last buzzer goes off!
