Like for many of you, my job and routine was abrubtly cut short in March when the Covid 19 crisis had doors closing and sports packing it in for the foreseeable future. This was definitely a difficult time as I had just finished watching my two local PWHL teams battle it out for a chance to move to the next round of the playoffs. I was excited that regardless of the outcome, a local team was moving on and I had planned to be at each playoff game to see it through. Games were canceled for the weekend, and then for the season. It was indeed heartbreaking to know that the girls graduating this year had just played their last game, but didn't know it at the time. They didn't get the normal "last game" sendoff. They didn't get the chance to fight one last time for the championship. This is true for all teams moving on to the playoffs in their respective sports.
Spring sports for schools were also cancelled as schools closed doors for the school year and seniors finish the year without the normal celebrations that come in May and June. This effectively meant that my services were not needed for sports and as a non-essential service, there was nothing for me to do. It was unfortunate for myself, but honestly, my heart hurt and still does for the players/students that are missing their only "senior" year.
My hope for all is that we can still find different and unique ways to celebrate these kids and young adults while they manage the stress and disappointment of this situation. Yard signs, drive by celebrations, safe distance gatherings and online parties are a few of the ways I have seen this done.
This is a difficult time, but we will get through it. I believe we can come out of this stronger than we were and maybe wiser as well. Sports will return eventually and hopefully my place in that world will still be there. But I am grateful for my health and that of my family and I wish the same for all of you.
My services are here for anyone open to new ideas for capturing some outdoor fun. I believe we will all need to adjust and find new opportunities where life is giving them. Contact me if you have ideas and would like to brainstorm.
Be safe everyone. Take care and help others when you can. I hope to see you all soon.
