Hello again Team Brandwood Fans!
This past weekend, Team Brandwood competed in our second event of the season, the KW Fall Classic. Our first game was early Friday morning against Team Duncan. As both teams worked on learning the ice, Team Duncan was able to get a handle on the ice more quickly, resulting in a 7-4 loss. As we had most of the day off, we enjoyed some quality time together making meals, playing board games and going for a walk. Friday evening we bounced back with a strong team performance against Team Walsh, scoring multiple large ends resulting in a final score of 10-1.
On Saturday we enjoyed a team brunch before playing our third game against Team Kiemele. After giving up an opening deuce, we quickly learned the ice and rebounded to tie up the game in the third end. We stole two points in the fourth end to take the lead and continued to score multiple points leading to a 10-3 win. Going into the last game of pool play against Team Ha from Korea, our playoff fate was in our own hands. We got down three points early but rallied back to a one-point deficit. However, we couldn’t complete the comeback losing 7-3.
We finished the event with a 2-2 record and a strong shootout, but unfortunately, we were just shy of qualifying for the playoffs. Although we would have loved to be competing on Sunday, most importantly we are continuing to grow as a team and make strides in the right direction. Often, you learn the most from the tough losses. We were super appreciative that our coach, John Gabel, was able to join us this weekend and provide key insight and feedback.
With a couple of weeks off, we will shift our focus towards practice and wrapping up our Oakville Summer League games. We will look to put what we have learned in the last two weeks into practice at our next event, the Stu Sells Tankard in Barrie from October 5 - 9.
Thanks for following along!
