Lots of competitive ball hockey and good fun for a great cause happened at the Toronto Women's Ball Hockey Association's 8th Annual Joan Padmore Memorial Ball Hockey Tournament held May 3rd and 4th, 2019.  This tournament is a key feature for the TWBHA's ball hockey season and a highlight for many teams that come from other parts of the Greater Toronto Area to play and return year after year.  It also honours Joan Padmore.   A very special person who always selflessly gave her time and talents to improve the opportunities for girls to play ice hockey and ball hockey in her local Leaside neighbourhood. Proceeds from the tournament go to support Joan's daughter's participation in the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada's Manulife Ride for Heart.

This year's tournament had ten participating teams with four playing in the competitive division and six playing in the recreational division.  Saturday's game action for both divisions was tight and fun to watch for the many family and friends in the stands.  Tournament organizer, and a TWBHA legend in her own right, Beth Brotherstone had every tournament detail attended to and ensured the tournament's energy was inviting and enjoyable for every team that had signed up to play.  Beth also coached one of the TWBHA teams that were signed up to play in the recreational division.  With her team making it to the recreational division final, she found herself running between both rinks as both a coach and as the tournament coordinator recognizing division winners.   The continued success of this annual event reflects the deep commitment that both Beth and the ball hockey community gives to the tournament.
