Hello again SWSCD readers! It’s Team Brandwood and we’re back with another exciting season of curling. This year we will be playing in six tour events in Ontario through September to December. Once again the playdowns for the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts will be in January. Pending the success of our tour events we could have enough points for automatic entry and not have to play in the open qualifier the weekend of January 3rd-5th, 2025. The Ontario Scotties are being held in Cobourg, at the Cobourg Community Centre, January 19th-26th. The champion will then go on to represent Ontario at the Scotties in February.
This season you might notice a new face on the team. Our new vice is Lauren Horton. She’s a very talented and accomplished curler that has been skipping out of Quebec the last few seasons. We are thrilled to have her join the team!
On September 19th-22nd we played in our first tour event as a new team. At the KW Fall Classic we had a 3-1 record after pool play. Our only loss was to Team Ha of Korea after an extra end. In the quarterfinal we played Team Hardy, a fellow Ontario team, and our weekend ended with a 5-4 loss. Overall, we are very happy with the results of our first event and how we are starting to jell as a team. We learned a lot and have things we can fine tune for the next event to come out even stronger!
Speaking of…today we start tour event #2! At 1:30pm today we will be playing Team Inglis (another SWSCD team) at the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard. This event is a triple knockout so you will have to keep an eye out for our social media posts or on the StuCurls.com to see where we are in the bracket. All games will be live streamed on the HPC Curling YouTube channel. Good luck and good curling!
